There is not currently a Wooden Boat Association in Western
Australia. There are, however, other organisations that overlap the
aims of the Wooden Boat Associations. They are the
Classic Yacht
Association, which also has branches in other states and
Amateur Boat Builders Association (ABBA)
The AMATEUR BOAT BUILDING ASSOCIATION (ABBA) of WA is a group of
home boat builders based in WA, building chiefly in timber but also
in other materials. About half the members currently have projects
under way, ranging from a 2.4 m dinghy to 11 m ocean racers and
including historic rebuilds. Others have either completed boats or
are contemplating starting.
Evening meetings always involve a guest speaker on a relevant
topic. They are held on the last Wednesday of every second month
from July (Sept, Nov, etc) at South of Perth Yacht Club. Members are
asked to arrive from 7.30 for a 8.00 start. Visits to members'
projects also take place bi-monthly, on the second Saturday
afternoon of every other month. A bi-monthly newsletter is mailed or
emailed to all members. It chiefly reports on the previous two
months' activities and advertises future events. It is timed to
arrive just before each evening meeting.
ABBA welcomes all new and prospective members - hopefully we can
all share advice, techniques and other
information.
